The Tsar’s Bride by The Bolshoi Theatre | Dubai Opera

The Tsar’s Bride is an opera by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, presented by Dubai Opera in collaboration with Art Seasons. Featuring the legendary Bolshoi Theatre from Moscow, this production marks the theatre's first official tour in the UAE. Conducted by Valery Gergiev, the opera is part of the Bolshoi Theatre's golden repertoire and takes place at Dubai Opera.

Set during the reign of Ivan the Terrible, The Tsar’s Bride explores themes of passion, jealousy, dramatic tension and bloody revenge. Inspired by historical events, the story centres on Marfa Sobakina, the third wife of Tsar Ivan the Terrible, who died just two weeks after their wedding. The opera is based on the play by Russian dramatist and poet Lev Mey, although the production does not claim historical accuracy.

The Dubai performance takes place on 2 December 2026 at Dubai Opera's Main Auditorium. The production features music by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, conducted by Valery Gergiev. Tickets are available through the official Dubai Opera website at dubaiopera.com.
