Most people decide what to do at the weekend a day or two beforehand, and event details are usually spread across posters, social media posts and group chats. This guide explains how to use Events Around Me to plan a weekend, whether you are after music, food, cultural programs or something for the family.
The panel at the end of this article shows what is listed for the coming weekend across Kerala right now, so you can see the idea in practice.
How "this weekend" works here
On Events Around Me, the weekend means Saturday and Sunday. On a Saturday or Sunday, it means the weekend in progress. On any other day, it means the next one. An event counts if any part of it falls on those days, so a three-day festival that began on Friday still shows up.
Every district page has a "This weekend" view, for example Ernakulam this weekend. These views only show events that are actually listed for those dates. If the page is empty, nothing has been listed for your district yet. It does not mean nothing is happening, so look at neighbouring districts or the whole-state search.
Three ways to narrow it down
By place. Open the locations page and choose a district. Each district page lists what is coming up there and which categories and venues have events.
By kind of event. The categories page lists every category that currently has events. Each category page shows where in Kerala those events are, which helps if you are willing to travel for the right one. Categories worth trying for a weekend include Music, Food, Festivals, Arts, Theatre and Kids.
By everything at once. The Find Events page searches event names, venues, organisers and performers, and lets you filter by date, district, category and price. Use the date filter set to Saturday and Sunday and then narrow by district.
Free events and ticketed events
Each event page shows its price as entered by the organiser. Events marked free say so. For ticketed events, the page links to the organiser's booking or information page where one has been provided. If an event has no ticket link, the page says so, and the organiser's own channels, such as the Instagram link when listed, are the next place to check.
Planning more than one thing
If you want to fit in more than one event, the venue and map details do the work. Check how far apart the venues are using the directions links, remember that travel between districts in Kerala can take longer than the distance suggests, and leave time between events. Add each event to your calendar from its page so the times sit side by side.
Before you leave home
- Check the status again on the day. Events can be cancelled or postponed after they are listed, and the banner on the event page shows this.
- Confirm times with the organiser if the page does not show a start time.
- Allow for the weather, especially for outdoor events in the monsoon months.
- Report mistakes. If a listing is wrong, use the report link on the event page so it can be corrected.
For recurring annual festivals and the months they usually fall in, see the guide to Kerala's annual events. If you are organising something for the weekend, you can submit your event.
